Kabul is preparing for a harsh winter amid soaring coal prices that have risen partly due to higher transportations costs. Coal remains the main source of fuel and heat in Afghanistan, where the price increases have left many poor families struggling to heat their homes through the winter months and even as coal worsens air quality in the Afghan capital.
