Join me to see the process of how to grow a tamarillo from seed and turn it into a beautiful little Tamarillo Tree (Tree Tomato). You can do this at home with fruit you buy from the supermarket! Such a fun experiment and a fast growing tree that has leaves that smell a bit like buttered popcorn.
The tamarillo is a small tree in the nightshade family (plant family Solanaceae).
It's a rare fruit in some countries and produces an egg-shaped fruit also known as the tree tomato, blood fruit, tomate de árbol, tomate andino, tomate serrano, tomate de españa, sachatomate, tomate de yuca, berenjena and tamamoro in South America.
Tamarilllos can fruit quickly from seed grown plants - only 1.5 to 2 years from seed!
The colour of the fruits can vary, depending on the variety with some being yellow and orange and others red to almost purple.
The tamarillo is native to the Andes of Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Argentina and Bolivia.
