Having a level 12 weapon is HIGHLY recommended. The sentinel enemies that you encounter prior to the boss drop great level 12 weapons sometimes, so be on the lookout for them. It's better to pay attention to the boss, rather than trying to get every active reload, especially while you're weaving in and out of bullet hell barrages. Once you get the hang of things, you'll notice it's a fair bit slower than you might have originally thought. Good luck!
