What is sectarianism?

What does sectarianism mean? We hear the term used a great deal by the media outlets, politicians, academics and analysts but despite its widespread usage there remains a great deal of ambiguity over the meaning of sectarianism. Based on the work of prominent academics working on sectarianism, this video offers a short introduction to the concept of sectarianism, identifying the main approaches to the topic and the way sectarianism has shaped the politics of the Middle East.
