Habsburg army losses in the Austro-Prussian War. In 1864 Austrian Empire seemed to be doing great, sure they lost to the Italians in 1859, but by 1864 the aided they, along with the Prussians, beat the Danes and gained new territories. But afterwards they could not agree with the Prussians on how to govern those new territories. What seemed to be the last straw for the Prussians was the Austrians permitting the Duchies to call up a united assembly. The Austrians strengthened their forces on the Prussian frontier, which caused the Prussians responded with a partial mobilization. The Austrians then had to reinforce their troops on the Italian border when the Prussians formed an alliance with them.

The war lasted only a few weeks preventing the economic or political factors from having any real influence. The war did end in an Austrian defeat, the major tipping point being the Battle of Königgrätz, where the Austrians suffered heavy losses. The Austrians did have more success against the Italians, particularly the naval Battle of Lissa, but the Prussian victories rendered these mute.
