ROYA WOMEN VERSION
Exactly a year ago it happened.
Mahsa Amini was murdered in Iran for the sole reason of not wearing her hijab properly.
For more than a decade I have been following the brave women of Iran. They, who who tried to be happy, who protested, seeking their freedom.
Who would have believed that a women could be murdered in Iran, for no reason, and that the world will continue as usual.
This is a day of remembrance and of love for the brave women who fearlessly shout out for freedom.
They are the leaders of this revolution.
It is as important to me, to all of us, to remember Mahasa.
When the protests started, my last album Roya was released. This album is a collaboration with brave female artists from Iran. Secretly, they travelled across Iran to meet with me and my Israeli band in an underground recording studio in Istanbul.
During the next 10 days we recorded the album.
Roya, a fantasy, a vision and our sweet dream came true.
I had the privilege of meeting and of creating with extraordinary women to whom all my heart and my soul, my songs and my career are dedicated.
After 10 days of fear and love, just before they went back to Iran, I asked them to record a live performance of the theme song with me.
It was an intimate version of female empowerment... we shed so many tears together…tears of hope.
Hope that next year we will be able to shed tears of freedom and happiness, that they will be able to live their sweetest dream.
