WHY DOES SUGAR LIGHT UP ON A PET SCAN?

Here’s why!
Many people will say that “sugar fuels cancer.” The rationale is because of what happens on a PET scan.
You see, a radioactive tracer is injected before the scan and this tracer usually contains a form of sugar (like glucose).
When the PET scan is completed, the sugar causes the cancer to light up. Because the cancer lights up from sugar, some people will say
“Ahh ha! Proof that sugar fuels cancer. Stop eating sugar and you’ll stop the cancer.”
❌Here’s why this is wrong ❌
Sugar is taken up by metabolically active cells. This includes cancer because it’s doing it’s best to grow and take over BUT it also includes your brain.
So by this same theory if we stopped eating sugar, our brain would also stop functioning…but we know that’s not true.
💥This sugar theory is busted then.💥
If it wants to - cancer will find a way. It’s not simple. It’s not straightforward. To think we can solve cancer by cutting out sugar (easy as that) is quite misinformed.
So here’s what to do instead. These are PROVEN ways to reduce cancer risk.
🥬Eat more plants
🚶♀️Move your body for 150 minutes per week
🍷Limit alcohol
🌭Limit processed meats
