Actually, there’s no dedicated Android trash folder because Android devices have limited storage. But, if there is no trash folder, where do files go after you delete them. Well, a file is not completely deleted until its assigned sector gets occupied by a new file. Even if Android phones don’t have a trash folder, you can still utilize the alternatives to empty trash Android and free-up more storage.

How to Empty Trash and Remove Junk Files on Android

Method 1: Clear Cached Data
Step 1 - Go to Settings and select “Apps and Notifications”.
Step 2 - Choose a particular app and tap “Clear Cache” to delete its cached data.

Method 2: Delete Downloaded Files
Step 1 - Go to “File Manager” and open the “Downloads” folder.
Step 2 - Choose the files that you want to delete and tap the “more” icon.
Step 3 - Now, tap “Delete” to remove these files. This will clear up plenty of storage on your device.

Method 3: Uninstall/Deleted Unused Apps
Step 1 - Open “Settings” and select “Apps & Notifications”.
Step 2 - Now, choose a particular app and tap the “Uninstall” button to remove the app.

Method 4: Take Advantage of Smart Storage
These days, Android smartphones come with a built-in “Smart Storage” feature that automatically frees up space by deleting specific files.
Step 1 - Go to “Settings” and select “Storage”.
Step 2 - Tap “Smart Storage” and toggle the switch to enable the feature. You can also select the time span after which you want your device to delete backed-up images and videos.

Method 5: Use an MiscroSD Card
Finally, if your device’s internal storage is too small to store all your data, you can always expand it by inserting an external MicroSD card.

How to Empty Trash for Different Android Apps

1: Email/Gmail
Every e-mail app, including Gmail has a specific Trash folder. So, if you’ve accidentally deleted an important e-mail, you can easily recover it from this folder.
Step 1 - Launch the “Gmail” app on your device and tap “More icon” on the top-left corner.
Step 2 - Click on the “Trash” option. This will display all the e-mails you’ve deleted from your Gmail account.

2: File Explorer Apps
Step 1 - Open ES File Explorer and tap the “More” icon at the top-left corner.
Step 2 - Toggle the switch in front of “Recycle Bin” to enable the feature. That’s it whenever you’ll delete a file in ES File Explorer, it’ll move to the Bin folder and you could retrieve it any time you want.

3: Photos App
Finally, apps like Google Photos also have a Trash folder. You can access this folder by tapping the “More” icon.
