Two men were killed during a police involved shooting in St Augustine earlier on Wednesday 15th May, 2024.
• The deceased were identified as murder suspect Darion Bridgelal and Sudeen Maharaj.
• Around 9:00am, officers of the Homicide Bureau of investigations reportedly went to a house along Dookiesingh Street, St Augustine to arrest a suspect wanted in connection with a double murder that took place on December 30th, 2023.
• When the officers arrived at the scene, a chase ensued, during which one of the suspects allegedly fired a shot at the officers who became fearful and shot back, hitting both men.
• They were subsequently taken to the Mt Hope Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
• The officers also recovered an AR RIFLE fitted with a magazine containing 30 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, nine spent 9.mm shells and one live .9mm round. Also, two shoulder side bags, one containing 2 live 5.56 rounds of ammunition and 9 clear plastic packets of plant-like material, resembling marijuana.
On Saturday 30th December, 2023: Anand Bissoon aka "Fly" of Samaroo Lane, St Augustine and Shane Ranjitsingh of Benny Lane, St Augustine were gunned down by a teen in the gallery of a home along Benny Lane in St Augustine.
A total of 14 persons were killed during police-involved shootings for the year thus far.
The last police killing took place on Tuesday 7th May, 2024, when a cutlass-wielding mentally ill man identified as 33-year-old Jeremy Ramberran was shot by police he allegedly attacked along the New Colonial Road in Barrackpore.
