This chord progression is from the key of G and uses the classic
I  V  vi IV chords.  The key of G Major ("The" Major is known as Ionian in the modes world). The notes for this key are G A B C D E F# G.

SOLO IDEAS:
1. Play G Major pentatonic throughout

2. Play G Maj pent for the G chord, D Maj pent for the D chord, Em (relative of G) pent for the Em chord and C Maj pent for the C Chord

3. Play G Ionian throughout
