“Angels” is a piece in unapologetic praise of a group worthy of all praise: The wondrous women of Iran. For decades, including 42 brutal years of an Islamist dictatorship, the Iranian women have overcame all manners of oppression and violence: From domestic violence to ‘honour’ killings; from femicide to numerous cases of rape that go unreported due to shame and fear. Iranian girls as young as 9 are married off without consent. This sets the tone. In every stage of their life, they bear the brunt of violence led by a brutal regime that has denied them even the most basic rights like the right to chose what they wear — Iran’s is the only regime in the world which imposes mandatory veiling (Hijab) on all women everywhere.

This piece is part of a feature-length musical called "Sweet Destiny". More than 30 Iranian artists, from inside and outside the country, have helped bring it about. On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the band "Kiosk" has the honour of publishing this piece as NFT. Kiosk aims to let the world know about the brutal conditions of women in Iran and bring help to our people.

The inspiration for the visuals came from the tragic story of Romina Ashrafi; a 13-year-old girl who was killed with a sickle by her father in what was labeled as a ‘honour killing.’ We aim to be a voice for countless Rominas whose life are threatened by fathers, brothers and others driven by hate and ignorance; and by a government who always sides with the aggressor and oppressors against the victims and the oppressed.

Almost 20 percent of all annual murders in Iran are honour killings; and 61 percent of the victims are killed by their own relatives.

But the Iranian women are not passive victims of this oppression. They have long been on the forefront of standing up to injustice and resisting the reactionary dictatorship in Iran. There can be no democratic transition in Iran without a leading role for the Iranian woman.

Aiming to use the emancipatory potentials of Blockchain, Kiosk wants to send help to the brave women of Iran. “Angels” is the starting point. Forty percent of this NFT sale will go to grassroots organizations which work to improve the lives of Iranian women inside and outside the country. All help will go to organizations conducting verifiable work. The details of the donations will be published on Kiosk’s website in a wholly transparent manner after we finish the sales.
