Pins and Needles is what you'll feel climbing Pine Climb to get to the top of the trail head at Red Hill MTB Park. But that doesn't compare to the Pins and Needles you get going down this trail.

Big shoutout to @bryce_mtb2.0 (IG) and his dad Clive for filming me over the gap jump at 3:00. Bryce was considering following me in over the gap jump and, although he skipped it on this day, I did see him clear it on his Instagram account not long after. Way to go buddy!

The drop in to this trail is a precursor to some of the drops you'll experience on your way down. They're no bigger than the one at the start but some of the landings are a little sketchy with plenty of rocks and roots to keep you on your toes.

Then there's the actual pine needles which on this day weren't too bad. On other days though they've covered the trails and can make for some slippery sections. Combined with the numerous roots you really need to keep your wits about you on this trail.

Toward the bottom you'll also come across an imposing gap jump that at first glance is enough to have you stop and reassess the b-line option. But with a few pedal strokes clearing this gap jump isn't as hard or daunting as it looks and will soon have you turn around for another run.

Back at the bottom you have the choice of continuing on this trail to your right through some loamy winding trail and onto the return tarmac road that will take you back to Boundary Road and Dromana.

If you're keen for another run turn left and head back up Pine Climb for another dose of Pins and Needles.
