Daocheng Yading (稻城亞丁), located in the southwestern part of Sichuan Province(四川省), about 860km away from Chengdu(成都), is celebrated as “the Last Pure Land on Our Blue Planet.” This area is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, including snow-capped mountains, dense forests, vast grasslands, and sparkling lakes. It first gained popularity through Joseph Rock's photographs published in National Geographic in 1928 and later through James Hilton's depiction in his novel "Lost Horizon," earning it the titles “Soul of Shangri-La” and “Last Shangri-La.” In 2003, Daocheng Yading was designated as a UNESCO MAB (Man and the Biosphere Programme) Reserve, highlighting its significant natural and scenic value.

The best time to visit Daocheng Yading is from mid-September to mid-November for the autumn colors, and from late March to June for the blooming flowers. July to early September offers a cooler summer retreat, though it's rainier, and late November to early March presents a snowy landscape, though roads may be closed due to snow.
